Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has responded to a viral video reportedly circulated by a family member in connection with the death of his late wife, firmly stating that his family remains united.
Speaking with journalists at the Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort in Uyo during the 60th birthday celebration of former Deputy Governor Obong Nsima Ekere, Governor Eno dismissed the video as a politically driven attempt to stir controversy.
“We’re in a political season, so these kinds of things will surface,” he said. “My family is intact. You can see everyone here with me.”
He noted that the incident in question occurred shortly after the passing of his wife last year, and questioned the motive behind the video’s sudden reappearance.
“Why is this video resurfacing now right as we mark my second year in office? The timing is clearly meant to divert attention from the progress we’re making.”
Governor Eno also spoke about the emotional impact of grief on families, especially on younger members, and called for compassion.
“Losing a loved one is deeply traumatic, especially for children. This video only reopens wounds we’ve been trying to heal. I’ve already lost my wife please, let her rest in peace.”
Reaffirming his commitment to governance, the governor said he remains focused on delivering the promises of his ARISE Agenda.
“I will not be distracted. I wouldn’t wish what I went through on anyone. And to those behind these rumours if that’s what you wish for yourself, I wish you well.”
He also extended his best wishes to Obong Nsima Ekere on his 60th birthday, praying for good health, wisdom, and continued service to the nation.
