Alhaji Alhassan Yaryasa, a senior All Progressives Congress (APC) figure from Kano, has commended Abdullahi Ganduje’s resignation as National Chairman of the APC, describing it as a prudent and timely decision that spared him from potential humiliation.

In a phone interview on Sunday, Yaryasa disclosed that Ganduje was likely to be forcefully removed if he had not voluntarily stepped down.

He revealed that covert plans were in motion to oust Ganduje in a manner that would have been damaging, stemming from disagreements with the Presidency.

“We were aware of efforts to bring Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso into the APC, possibly as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate in 2027. Whatever the specifics, Ganduje’s resignation was the best option to avoid being disgraced,” Yaryasa said.

As a former Coordinator of the Tinubu Campaign Organisation for Kano South, Yaryasa praised Ganduje’s significant contributions to strengthening the APC both nationally and within Kano.

He highlighted Ganduje’s instrumental role in attracting prominent politicians from other parties into the APC, including senators and members of the House of Representatives who recently defected.

“It was far better for Ganduje to exit on his own terms than to face public disgrace,” he added.

On the future leadership of the APC, Yaryasa stressed the need for fairness and due process, urging stakeholders to ensure the chairmanship is assigned justly, regardless of geopolitical considerations.
