Nollywood actress Abiola Adebayo has addressed the backlash and ridicule she faced online after publicly announcing her marriage had ended.
In a video that went viral Tuesday night, the podcaster reminded her critics that she is human, explaining that her choice to share her separation was intentional to stop rumors and take control of her own story.
She disclosed that her estranged husband was informed ahead of the announcement. Contrary to the public speculation, he understands her true character.
Speaking in both English and Yoruba, Abiola said, “I am human. When I shared about my marriage, it was because I didn’t want people telling my story for me, yet many turned it against me. I told my husband before I posted, so he knew about it. He knows I’m not what people say, but God will reward everyone.”
Abiola confirmed they’ve been separated since April 2024 but stressed that they’ve agreed to co-parent their son peacefully and maturely.
To those disappointed by the news, she expressed regret over the marriage’s failure but emphasized the importance of her well-being. “It’s better to be alive to tell the story,” she said.
She also asked fans to keep her family in their prayers, revealing the emotional toll the separation has taken. Despite appearing upbeat publicly, she admitted to experiencing difficult, emotional nights.
