President Bola Tinubu says he finds value in public criticism, including harsh remarks from his detractors, using them as learning opportunities in governance.
“Whatever I do, they will insult me,” Tinubu stated during a town hall meeting in Benue State on Wednesday. “But I read the papers and I learn from the criticism because I can’t see everything myself.”
The President’s visit comes amid a surge of violent attacks by armed herdsmen in the state, which have led to the deaths of over 100 people in recent weeks.
While meeting with Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, Tinubu made a pointed remark: “Your political enemies don’t want you to succeed. Are you just realizing that now?”
Call for Unity and a Peace Strategy
Tinubu called on local leaders to work together toward restoring peace in the region, emphasizing the importance of unity.
“We cannot do without one another,” he said. “I want us to set up a leadership committee that will convene in Abuja to design a long-term peace strategy. I’m ready to invest in that peace.”
