Ifeanyi Ejiofor, human rights lawyer and legal counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has urged President Bola Tinubu to put an immediate stop to the monthly media briefings conducted by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, labeling them as wasteful and self-serving.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Ejiofor criticized the briefings as unnecessary and lacking public value, accusing Wike of using them as a platform for personal showmanship at a high cost to taxpayers.

“It is indefensible that Wike reportedly spends hundreds of millions of naira on these media shows each month, while millions of Nigerians face soaring inflation, stagnant wages, and deepening poverty,” Ejiofor said.

He stressed that the funds could be more effectively used to address urgent national challenges such as rehabilitating flood-hit communities, upgrading dilapidated public schools, or assisting displaced citizens.

“Masquerading as public engagement, these events are a glaring misuse of public funds,” he stated. “Nigerians are demanding effective leadership and fiscal responsibility not expensive, performative media outings.”

Ejiofor called on President Tinubu to curb what he described as the FCT Minister’s excessive media displays and redirect the resources toward meaningful development.

“This is a time for sober leadership and people-centered governance not extravagance,” he concluded.
