Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has announced a generous reward package for players of Kwara United Football Club, offering each player a cash gift of ₦5 million and a plot of land in the state’s upcoming Kwara Smart City.
The governor made the announcement on Monday during a special reception held in honour of the team following their commendable performance in recent football engagements. The gesture, he said, is aimed at appreciating the players’ hard work, dedication, and the pride they have brought to the state.
According to Governor AbdulRazaq, the monetary reward and land allocation are not just incentives but a demonstration of the state government’s commitment to supporting sports development and encouraging excellence among athletes.
“In recognition of your impressive performance and the honour you have brought to Kwara State, I am pleased to announce a reward of ₦5 million and one plot of land in Kwara Smart City for each member of the team,” he declared to loud applause.
The Kwara Smart City is a flagship urban development project by the state government, designed to promote modern living, technology-driven infrastructure, and economic growth. The governor noted that providing land in the smart city is a strategic move to ensure the players have a lasting stake in the state’s future.
Governor AbdulRazaq also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sports development in the state, pledging more investments in sports infrastructure, youth empowerment, and talent development.
“We believe in rewarding excellence and motivating our young people to strive for greatness. This is just the beginning. Our administration will continue to create opportunities for our youths to shine, not only in sports but across all sectors,” he added.
The players, management, and supporters of Kwara United expressed their gratitude to the governor for the gesture, describing it as unprecedented and a major morale booster.
