A vigilante named Mr. Samuel Okoro from the Okpanam community in Delta State was reportedly shot and killed by kidnappers. According to PUNCH Metro, the kidnappers had abducted some individuals from the area on Sunday and taken them into the bush.
Mr. Okoro, who spotted the kidnappers in the bush, decided to follow them. Sadly, he was unaware that they had also seen him, and he was eventually shot and killed.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident in a phone call, advising vigilante members to always alert the police before carrying out such risky actions.
He stated, “Yes, Mr. Okoro was a vigilante in Okpanam and was killed by kidnappers while trying to follow them. We’re warning other vigilantes not to take such actions alone, but to involve the police.”
The incident comes amid rising insecurity in the area, as several cases of kidnapping and killings have been reported in Okpanam and Issele-Azagba. As a result, many farmers have abandoned their farmlands due to fear for their safety.
