French President Emmanuel Macron has urged his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian, to promptly rejoin nuclear negotiations amid growing hostilities between Iran and Israel.

The call came during a Saturday conversation between the two leaders, following Israel’s unprecedented airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites.

The strikes reportedly resulted in the deaths of several senior military officials and nuclear scientists, triggering retaliatory attacks from Iran and fueling fears of a wider regional war.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Macron said, “I invited President Pezeshkian to swiftly return to the negotiating table to reach an agreement — the only viable path to de-escalation.”

Although Tehran insists its uranium enrichment activities are solely for civilian use, Western nations continue to express concern about possible nuclear weapons development.

Macron also emphasized the need to protect French nationals and interests in the region, calling for “maximum restraint to avoid further escalation.”

As tensions rise, global leaders are renewing calls for dialogue to prevent a broader conflict in the Middle East.
