The Benue State Police Command has apprehended a man identified as Torngusha Usuwe, who is accused of killing his mother during a domestic dispute at Gungul Village in Ukum Local Government Area.

The incident was revealed on Thursday by counter-insurgency expert Makama Zagazola via a post on X.com.

He explained that the incident took place on Tuesday around 2:30 p.m., during which the suspect allegedly struck his mother on the left side of her jaw with a stick, leading to a serious injury.

“The victim, who began bleeding from her mouth and ear, was rushed to Zege Nyion Clinic in Gungul for urgent medical attention but was confirmed dead around 8:00 p.m. the same day. Following a report by Terwase Usuwe, a relative of the deceased, detectives were immediately deployed to the scene,” he wrote.

Zagazola noted that the police took photographs at the scene and transported the body to the Gungul Memory Integrated Morgue where an autopsy will be conducted.

“The suspect, Torngusha Usuwe, has been taken into custody, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing,” he added.

Efforts to reach Benue Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, were unsuccessful as calls to his phone were not answered, and a text message sent had not received a response at the time of filing this report.
