Police operatives in Edo State have apprehended a 31-year-old man named Joshua Osaigbovo in connection with the death of 21-year-old Osato Edogiaweria. Authorities also recovered her decaying remains from a shallow grave.
The arrest was made public through a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, via X.com.
According to Yamu, the case was initially reported on April 25, 2025, by the victim’s mother, Mrs. Ojo.
The statement said, “Following a case of a missing person reported on April 25, 2025, at Aduwawa Division, by Mrs Ojo, that her daughter, Osato Festus Edogiaweria, 21 years left home on April 20, 2025, in the company of her friend and has not been heard from since then.”
After the matter was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, a detailed investigation by the Family Unit led to the suspect’s arrest on June 18.
During questioning, Osaigbovo admitted to having invited Osato to his house in Iyanomon Community, Ikpoba-Okha LGA. A disagreement between them allegedly turned physical, resulting in her death after hitting her head.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to having invited the said Osato Festus (now deceased) to his residence on April 27, 2025, and in the course of their stay, they had an altercation that led to a fight where the deceased fell, hit her head on the ground and died.”
He also admitted to disposing of her body in a wheelbarrow, burying it in a shallow grave near his home.
He further confessed that he took the dead body of the lady in a wheelbarrow to a bush nearby, dug and buried her in a shallow grave a few metres away from his residence.
Police said the suspect later directed them to the burial site at Iyanomon Community.
