Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has voiced doubts about Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim’s suitability for the club in the long term. Despite Amorim recently taking charge, Keown remains unconvinced by the direction United are heading under the Portuguese coach.
“I’m still concerned this isn’t the right manager for Manchester United,” Keown said. “They could do a lot worse than go and get Jurgen Klopp. He might do an incredible job there. They need someone with more experience. Why not Klopp? He’s done it before, though with a better foundation.”
Keown’s comments come amid ongoing speculation about United’s future, after the club finished a disappointing 15th in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham.
Jurgen Klopp recently stepped down as Liverpool manager after a decorated nine-year tenure, during which he led the club to Champions League and Premier League glory. While Klopp has ruled out an immediate return to management, the idea of him managing Liverpool’s fierce rivals Manchester United seems far-fetched for now.
United, meanwhile, appear in no hurry to replace Amorim, despite the club’s underwhelming season and growing concerns about leadership at the top.
