Manchester United Chief Executive, Omar Berrada remains committed to his bold vision of winning the Premier League by 2028 despite the club suffering its worst top-flight finish in over four decades.
The Red Devils ended the 2024/25 season in a disappointing 15th place, marking their lowest league finish since relegation in 1973/74. They trailed arch-rivals and Premier League champions Liverpool by a staggering 42 points and also suffered a Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, leaving them without European football next season.
Speaking in the United We Stand fanzine, Berrada outlined his “Project 150” initiative, a plan unveiled internally last September aimed at securing both the Premier League and Women’s Super League (WSL) titles by 2028 when the club celebrates its 150th anniversary.
The task ahead is daunting. The men’s team, once dominant under Sir Alex Ferguson, last lifted the Premier League title in 2013. Meanwhile, United’s women’s team, who have never won the WSL, finished third this season—16 points adrift of champions Chelsea, who also defeated them in the FA Cup final.
Still, Berrada, formerly with Manchester City, remains optimistic.
“It’s about setting clear targets within a realistic timeframe so we can channel our energy toward achieving them,” he said. “Can we win the Premier League by 2028? Absolutely. It may seem unlikely after finishing 15th, but why not aim high? Why not do everything possible?”
Looking ahead to the milestone year in 2028, marking 150 years since United’s origins as Newton Heath, Berrada said he believes the club can build a title-contending side in the coming transfer windows.
“We’ve got two or three summers to put together a squad capable of challenging for the title,” he added. “I truly believe we can make it happen.”
