Two men who appeared in a viral video smoking what seemed to be marijuana while sitting atop a police patrol vehicle have been charged with cybercrime and remanded in custody.
In a statement shared Friday on X (formerly Twitter), Delta State Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe identified the suspects as 34-year-old Patrick Junior Asini and 20-year-old Tega Ojo.
They were arraigned before the Oghara High Court on a three-count charge, including cyberbullying and cyberstalking—offences under Sections 24 and 27 of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act.
Both individuals have been remanded at the Sapele Custodial Centre pending further court proceedings.
The viral clip that triggered the arrests shows the two men smoking a substance believed to be cannabis while sitting on a marked Nigeria Police Force patrol van assigned to the Anti-Crime Patrol Unit of the Oghara Division.
One of the men is seen making obscene gestures and verbally abusing a nearby police officer.
The video, initially posted by user #dammiedammie35, sparked widespread outrage online and prompted swift action from authorities.
