Nigerian rap icon Jude Abaga, widely known as MI, has publicly expressed regret over his past support for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The award-winning artist, often hailed as the ‘African Rapper No. 1,’ explained that he supported the APC during the 2015 general elections because he believed the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the time was plagued by corruption.

However, he now acknowledges that the APC has not fulfilled the promises that initially inspired his support.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Menism podcast, MI responded to backlash he received after commenting on the violent attacks in Benue State.

“I tweeted about the incident in Benue, and people were quick to remind me, ‘M.I, you supported the APC.’ And yes, I did,” he admitted. “At the time, I genuinely believed the PDP had failed us. I joined the call for change and democratic reform.”

He continued, “But we’re human. Even with the best intentions, we can make wrong choices. Sadly, the APC has not turned out to be the party I hoped it would be.”

MI emphasized that his focus now is on contributing positively to Nigeria through his music and influence, particularly by engaging with young Nigerians to build a more just and functional society.
