Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has said that any decision regarding his re-election in 2027 will be guided by divine direction. He made this known on Saturday during a grand civic reception and appreciation ceremony organized by the Oha Isiala Ngwa People of Isiala Ngwa North and South Local Government Areas.
The event was held to honor Governor Otti for his performance across the state, particularly in the Isiala Ngwa region. Amid growing endorsements and calls for him to seek a second term, the governor expressed gratitude but remained non-committal.
“Concerning the 2027 election, my position will be made clear in due time. There’s still a long road ahead,” Otti said. “Just as the 2023 victory was determined by God, so too will any decision about 2027. While I appreciate the overwhelming support and recognition of our achievements so far, I will continue to seek God’s guidance. As time progresses, the people will know my decision.”
He also used the occasion to highlight his administration’s focus on economic development, especially the strategic investment in Aba, which he described as central to the state’s economic revival.
Otti reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive governance, stating that development efforts are being implemented across all parts of Abia State. He addressed concerns over the location of the proposed Abia Airport in Nsulu, explaining that the choice was based on technical feasibility rather than political bias. He further disclosed that all landowners affected by the project had been fully compensated.
“The Abia Airport is a transformative project, not just an aviation hub but a major economic development zone,” the governor explained. “We have paid 100% compensation to all those affected. Any delays in payment may be due to incorrect account details or land ownership disputes.”
The event was attended by several notable figures, including Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, representing Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency; Senator Darlington Nwokocha; Hon. Collins Iheonunekwu of the Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency; Mr. Obinna Anaba, who chaired the event; Mr. Cyril Ishmael; and Dr. Ugochukwu Agu, President of the Ngwa National Association in the USA and Canada.
All speakers lauded Otti’s developmental strides and urged him to seek re-election in 2027.
Governor Otti, the leader of the Labour Party in Abia, also welcomed Hon. Collins Iheonunekwu and his supporters who recently decamped from the Peoples’ Democratic Party to the Labour Party. He similarly acknowledged the leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in the state, led by Chairman Eze Job.
