Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has claimed that Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, sent him a résumé in 2018 in a bid to be selected as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate for the 2019 presidential election.
Omokri made the revelation in a post on X (formerly Twitter) after being accused of dishonesty by a supporter of Obi. He said he was compelled to publish the alleged email to defend his integrity.
According to Omokri, the email dated October 8, 2018 was unsolicited and came after Obi had repeatedly contacted him, seeking his backing for the vice-presidential slot. The message reportedly included a résumé and acknowledged Omokri’s influence and prior support.
“To be clear, I wouldn’t have released this email if my character hadn’t been publicly called into question,” Omokri wrote. “But I refuse to be falsely labeled a liar.”
He attached a screenshot of the email, which he said was sent four days before Obi was officially named Atiku’s running mate on October 12, 2018. The subject of the email simply read: “RESUME.”
Omokri maintained that the evidence was authentic and challenged Peter Obi to deny its validity, claiming he would be prepared to release more incriminating material if necessary.
“If this email is fake or AI-generated, let Mr. Obi say so. I will then publish more evidence though I would rather not. But I keep meticulous records,” Omokri stated.
He concluded his post by asserting that his only motive was to set the record straight and reinforce the truth of his earlier claims.
