The serving overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare has denied claims that his recent visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was driven by personal interests.
Bakare, who was a contender in the 2023 All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary, met with the president at the Ikoyi residence last week, prompting speculation about possible political appointments or alignments.
However, during a sermon at his church, Bakare dismissed the rumours, stressing that his meeting with the president was solely for the good of the country.
“Some people think I went there to benefit personally. In what way have I ever done that? What they gave me in the past, I returned. What exactly am I looking for?” he questioned.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Bakare explained that his discussion with President Tinubu focused on national development and ways to improve the country.
“It’s not about personal reservations, it’s about ensuring Nigeria works. My vision is to see a functional nation within my lifetime,” he said.
He also noted that while he offered suggestions to the president, it is entirely up to Tinubu to decide whether to act on them.
