Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday confirmed Israel’s acceptance of a ceasefire proposal put forward by U.S. President Donald Trump, aiming to bring an end to the 12-day military conflict with Iran.
The decision followed Iran’s limited missile strike on a U.S. military installation in Qatar, which escalated tensions across the Middle East.
Netanyahu emphasised that any breach of the truce by Iran would provoke a strong Israeli response.
“Israel will respond forcefully to any violation of the ceasefire,” he declared.
The Prime Minister briefed Israel’s security cabinet on Monday night, stating that all strategic objectives of the operation had been achieved.
These, he said, included the neutralisation of Iran’s nuclear and missile threats, damage to key government and military sites, and the establishment of Israeli aerial dominance over Tehran.
In the aftermath of Iran’s early Tuesday missile launch, Israeli soldiers and rescue personnel combed through the debris of impacted buildings. Four casualties were confirmed.
Meanwhile, civilians across Israeli cities took shelter in underground bunkers as a final salvo of Iranian missiles landed just before the truce deadline.
Earlier, President Trump had announced via Truth Social that Iran and Israel had agreed to a “complete and total ceasefire” to be implemented in phases over 24 hours.
Under the plan, Iran would initiate the pause in hostilities, with Israel following 12 hours later.
Trump expressed optimism about the peace process, stating both nations pledged to act “peacefully and respectfully” during the implementation of the agreement.
However, the announcement was initially clouded by contradictory statements from Iran.
Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi first denied any deal had been finalised, but later suggested Iran might halt attacks if Israel did the same.
