Nigeria has been ranked third among African countries in the 2025 Global Firepower Military Strength Index, according to the latest report released by Global Firepower and cited by PUNCH Online on Monday.
The annual index assesses the military strength of 145 countries using over 60 indicators, including the number of active personnel, the quality and quantity of equipment, financial resources, logistics, and strategic geography.
Egypt retains its position as Africa’s leading military power, with Algeria coming second and South Africa ranked fourth. Nigeria’s climb to third place reflects its expanding military strength, bolstered by increased investment in manpower, advanced weaponry, and ongoing counter-terrorism initiatives.
