Flight Lieutenant Kafayat Sanni, Nigeria’s pioneering first female fighter pilot, has once again made history this time on the international stage.
At the recent graduation ceremony of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) in Accra, Sanni was named Best Allied Student and also received the prestigious Best Assistant Commandant Paper award.
The event, held on Friday, drew senior military officials and dignitaries from across the African continent.
The recognition was announced by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), in a statement from Abuja.
Sanni rose to national prominence in 2019 when she became the first woman to qualify as a fighter pilot in the Nigerian Air Force, following advanced training in the United States.
Since then, she has flown combat missions in the Alpha Jet and served as an instructor on the Super Mushshak, training the next generation of NAF pilots.
“Her stellar performance at GAFCSC not only highlights her personal dedication and skill, but also reflects Nigeria’s growing influence in regional defence and its commitment to gender inclusion within the military,” said Ejodame.
He further emphasized that her achievement is a testament to the Nigerian Air Force’s focus on human capital development, under the leadership of Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff.
