NiMet-Warns-Of-3-day-Thunderstorms-Rains

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has projected thunderstorms and rainfall across various parts of the country from Saturday through Monday.

 

In its three-day weather forecast released on Friday in Abuja, NiMet stated that early morning thunderstorms are expected on Saturday in parts of Taraba, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Adamawa states. Later in the day, thunderstorms accompanied by rain will likely spread to Kebbi, Taraba, Zamfara, Borno, Kaduna, Sokoto, Gombe, and Bauchi.

 

For the North-Central zone, morning thunderstorms are anticipated in Benue, Plateau, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Nasarawa. Later, rainfall and thunderstorms are expected in the FCT, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Kwara, Kogi, and Plateau.

 

In the South, cloudy skies with chances of morning rain are forecast for Enugu, Ebonyi, Cross River, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa. Isolated thunderstorms and rain are also likely later in the day in Imo, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, Anambra, Ondo, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti, Edo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Rivers.

 

On Sunday, thunderstorms are expected in the morning over Kaduna, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba. As the day progresses, areas including Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Kaduna, Zamfara, Gombe, and Bauchi will likely experience more rain.

 

The North-Central will see cloudy conditions with sunshine breaks and morning thunderstorms in Kogi, Kwara, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, and the FCT, with continued rain later in the day in the same areas.

 

Southern states including Delta, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River are expected to receive morning thunderstorms, with widespread rain forecast later in the day across the region.

 

By Monday, thunderstorms are forecast in the morning in Kebbi, Zamfara, Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba, with rainfall likely in Taraba, Adamawa, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Zamfara, Gombe, Kaduna, and Bauchi later on.

 

North-Central states will again experience cloud patches and sunshine intervals, followed by afternoon or evening thunderstorms in the FCT, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger, Kwara, and Plateau.

 

The Southern region will start the day with rain in parts of Ogun, Edo, Ondo, Delta, and Bayelsa, with isolated thunderstorms expected across most of the region as the day progresses.

 

NiMet warned of strong winds that may precede thunderstorms and advised residents to secure loose items, avoid driving in heavy rain, and disconnect electrical appliances to reduce risks.

 

Airline operators were also urged to obtain localized weather updates for flight planning, while the public was encouraged to stay informed through NiMet’s website at [www.nimet.gov.ng](http://www.nimet.gov.ng).
