Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has officially resigned from his position.

Announcing his departure in a Facebook post on Saturday, Soneye cited personal and family commitments as the reason for his decision.

Reflecting on his 20-month stint at NNPCL, he expressed gratitude to his colleagues and described the experience as a privilege.

“It has been a profound honour to serve both the company and our country. I am deeply grateful for the trust reposed in me and for the opportunity to contribute to the transformation of NNPCL,” he wrote.

Soneye affirmed his continued support for the company and called on the media to maintain “robust, balanced, and constructive reportage” in line with NNPCL’s mission.

Appointed on October 18, 2023, following a leadership reshuffle, Soneye took over from Garba Muhammad. Before joining NNPCL, he built a distinguished international journalism career, working in Nigeria, Australia, and the United States.

He previously served as Editor of Air Force One Magazine in Washington, D.C., and was president of the Nigerian Media Practitioners group in the U.S. capital.

Soneye is a member of several professional organizations, including the Nigerian Union of Journalists and the National Association of Black Journalists.

He was named Spokesperson of the Year by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations in both 2024 and 2025.
