Dele Momodu, a two-time presidential aspirant and prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stated that only a united coalition of political parties can successfully challenge and unseat President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State’s monthly programme, Guest of the Month, held in Ibadan, Momodu emphasized the importance of political unity, noting that internal divisions within the PDP continue to weaken its chances.

He remarked, “If the PDP were united, it possesses the capacity to take power from the APC in 2027. Unfortunately, there are forces both within and outside the party working against this possibility.”

Momodu accused the APC of deliberately fostering divisions within the PDP, saying, “The ruling party sees the PDP as its only real threat and is actively encouraging factionalism to destabilize it.”

He added that the internal challenges within the PDP are partly due to members being used to undermine the party’s stability. Despite this, he maintained that the PDP remains a law-abiding organization that adheres to due process when dealing with disciplinary matters.

“My soul has already left the PDP; only my body remains,” Momodu admitted, reflecting his disillusionment with the party’s current state.

On the prospects for 2027, Momodu stressed that defeating President Tinubu would require not just unity within the PDP, but a broader, strategic coalition.

“It will take a formidable alliance to unseat the president,” he said, adding that any viable challenger must come from a different geopolitical zone than the incumbent.
