The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State has called on former members—most notably Mr. Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party to return to the party.

Obi had exited the PDP ahead of the 2023 general elections, citing concerns that the party structure at the time did not support his presidential aspirations.

In a communiqué issued after an expanded State Executive Committee (SEC) meeting in Awka on Thursday, PDP Chairman in Anambra, Chidi Chidebe, outlined the party’s renewed efforts to reposition itself and extended an open invitation to past members.

“We warmly invite all aggrieved and former members of the PDP in Anambra especially our respected former governor, Mr. Peter Obi to come back home and be part of a revitalized and restructured party,” the statement read. “Together, we can continue our shared mission of building a better Nigeria.”

Chidebe cautioned against forming alliances with parties that lack ideological alignment, warning that such coalitions are unlikely to produce meaningful outcomes.

He also urged Anambra residents to rally behind PDP’s governorship candidate, Jude Ezenwafor, and his running mate, Francis Okeke, in the forthcoming elections.

In addition, he called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to guarantee a credible, transparent, and peaceful election.

“We are grateful for the enduring support of the Anambra people and encourage them to show strong turnout for our candidates,” Chidebe said.

The party also announced the unanimous selection of Chief Clems Ezike as the nominee for the vacant position of National Ex-Officio representing Anambra. The communiqué urged the Southeast Zonal Executive Committee, led by Chief Ali Odefa, to forward Ezike’s nomination to the PDP’s national secretariat.

Chidebe concluded by commending the party’s leadership for the successful National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on May 27 and expressed confidence in ongoing efforts to resolve internal disputes.
