Former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki has responded to President Bola Tinubu’s Democracy Day comments, in which Tinubu mocked the state of disunity among Nigeria’s opposition parties.

Saraki admitted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is facing internal challenges but expressed confidence that the party is capable of resolving them.

Speaking at the National Assembly on Thursday, President Tinubu remarked “It is a joy to see the opposition in disarray. For me, I will not say, try your best to put your house in order. I will not help you to do so, either.”

He also denied allegations that his administration is working to establish a one-party state by encouraging widespread defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a measured response, Saraki urged members of the PDP and other opposition groups to focus on self-reform and rebuilding.

“I think we must take him at his word. He said he supports a multi-party system and is not interested in creating a one-party state, so we’re on the same page,” Saraki said to reporters.

“That’s why we’re reaching out and working to bring people together. Those who say they’re under pressure  there’s no pressure anymore. We’ll get our house in order. And as he said, he won’t help us we’ll sort ourselves out.”
