Former Senate President and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Reconciliation Committee, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has expressed confidence that the PDP will regain its strength and become a formidable opposition by the 2027 general elections.

Speaking to journalists during a visit to his Ajikobi Ward in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, Saraki acknowledged that while the party has seen some defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), it is also attracting new members from other political parties.

“Some of our members may still leave for the APC, but at the same time, others are joining us,” he said. “I remain optimistic that the PDP will bounce back, both nationally and here in Kwara.”

Saraki, who had just revalidated his PDP membership, reiterated the party’s commitment to rebuilding and unifying its ranks. He noted that recent meetings of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) have laid the groundwork for progress, with more strategic engagements planned in the coming months.

“We started early, which gives us time to consolidate,” he stated. “There’s a clear opportunity to identify those who are committed to rebuilding the party and work with them. I’m encouraged by the responses we’re getting from our stakeholders across the country.”

He added that stability at the national leadership level will translate into greater confidence and momentum at the grassroots.

“As I received new members into the party today, I can say there’s growing enthusiasm,” Saraki remarked.

“People are registering with the PDP because they’re tired of the current state of affairs rising insecurity, unemployment, and poor governance.”

He emphasized that the PDP remains the only viable opposition party and assured members nationwide of efforts to revitalize it.

“We are doing everything possible to rescue the PDP. A thriving democracy depends on a strong opposition, and we must make both personal and collective sacrifices for the good of the country.”

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections in Kwara, Saraki said the PDP is gaining support at the grassroots. “Our members are active and visible, and the public is showing strong interest. That tells us people still believe in the PDP.”

Despite challenges at the national level, he concluded, “Once we stabilize leadership at the top, the rest will fall into place.”
