Renowned socio-political analyst and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has rejected accusations that his support for President Bola Tinubu is financially motivated.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday, Omokri stated that his endorsement of the Tinubu administration is driven by patriotism and a sincere commitment to Nigeria’s development not personal benefit.
“I’ve participated in national conversations long before 2023 without receiving a dime,” he said. “No one paid me then, and no one is paying me now. My motivation is love for Nigeria.”
Addressing allegations that he is on the All Progressives Congress (APC) payroll, Omokri clarified that his support for Tinubu’s policies is based on their substance and potential impact.
“I traveled to Lagos at my own expense to inspect the progress on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway,” he explained.
“I paid for my flight, brought along members of the media and the public, and used my own drone. I can confirm that 30 kilometers of the road have been completed.”
Omokri, who has been an outspoken critic of opposition figures such as Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, emphasized that his commentary is anchored in national interest, not political favoritism.
His remarks come amid heightened scrutiny over the objectivity of political commentators and concerns about the influence of party loyalties in public discourse.
