President Bola Tinubu has met with Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, to address the escalating violence in Benue State and promote peace among key leaders.

Governor Alia revealed the meeting during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday. He said the president called the discussion to foster collaboration and respond to growing public concern over the crisis.

“The President invited the SGF and me to ensure there’s harmony. He’s committed to peace in Benue,” Alia stated.

He also dispelled rumors of a rift between him and Akume, a former Benue governor, assuring that any previous misunderstandings have been resolved.

“If there were any differences, they’re behind us now. Our traditional rulers can now rest easy,” he said.

Alia attributed much of the violence to external elements, pointing to armed groups entering the state with high-powered rifles.

“Internally, we can manage our issues. It’s outsiders who are driving this violence,” he noted.

Responding to suggestions that the Federal Government has neglected the crisis, the governor affirmed that Abuja has been actively supportive.

“President Tinubu has fully backed us. We’ve brought down the number of affected local governments from 17 to just three,” Alia added.
