In celebration of Democracy Day, President Bola Tinubu will confer national honours on select members of the National Assembly on Thursday, June 12.

This was announced in a statement released on Sunday by House Spokesman Akin Rotimi Jr., who noted that the honours will be presented during a Special Joint Sitting of the National Assembly.

President Tinubu is expected to serve as the Special Guest of Honour and will deliver an address during the session.

“The programme will include goodwill messages from former presiding officers of the National Assembly and the conferment of national honours by Mr. President,” Rotimi said.

Themed “26 Years of Democracy: Renewing Our Commitment to National Development,” this year’s Democracy Day highlights the progress of Nigeria’s democratic governance since 1999.

Rotimi emphasized that the joint sitting marks a significant milestone in the country’s democratic journey and reflects the National Assembly’s role in upholding democratic values, promoting accountability, and advancing national growth.

He called on Nigerians to use the occasion as a moment of reflection and renewal, urging everyone to embrace a spirit of patriotism and work towards a more inclusive and united nation.
