Godswill Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu is unsettled by the deepening crisis within Nigeria’s opposition parties, urging the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) to put their houses in order.

Speaking during the commissioning of the Arterial Road N20 Interchange Bridges in Abuja, Akpabio pointed to ongoing leadership disputes in the PDP and the recent defection of Senator Neda Imasuen from the LP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as signs of a faltering opposition.

“However you ended up in this situation, you need to find your way out,” Akpabio said.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a committed democrat who believes in a strong, credible opposition. It pains him to see both the PDP and Labour Party in disarray.”

He also revealed he had received a letter from the Labour Party reflecting further internal division.

“It’s not just the PDP that’s struggling the Labour Party is also in turmoil. Yet its leaders talk about running the country when they can’t even manage their own party,” he added.

Akpabio welcomed Senator Imasuen’s switch to the APC and signaled openness to more defections.

“Senator Neda Imasuen crossed over from the LP to the APC today. I’m always ready to welcome more. Our doors remain open,” he said.

Wike Slams PDP Leadership Over Court Ruling

Also speaking at the event, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike criticized the PDP leadership for failing to promptly enforce a Supreme Court judgment that confirmed Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary.

Wike took aim at Acting PDP National Chairman Umar Damagum for directing Anyanwu to “resume” duties, calling the move unnecessary and legally unsound.

“Samuel Anyanwu never stopped working. You don’t need to direct him to resume,” Wike said.

“That’s not how the law works. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. It’s shameful to involve INEC just to validate a Supreme Court verdict.”

He further warned Damagum against letting pride or party finances cloud his judgment.

“If you don’t understand something, ask questions. Don’t let ego or access to party funds mislead you. Money can’t fix every problem,” Wike cautioned.
