President Bola Tinubu has pledged a crackdown on “one-chance” criminal activities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), assuring residents that his administration is tackling the menace through a comprehensive overhaul of the public transportation system.
Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu made the remarks on Thursday at the official commissioning of the Kugbo Bus Terminal in Abuja.
“We heard your concerns, we understood your fears, and we acted. With your cooperation, you will no longer fall victim to roadside ‘one-chance’ criminals,” he said.
The new terminal, along with the previously launched Mabushi terminal, forms part of a broader initiative to reform the FCT’s chaotic and unsafe transport network.
“These facilities meet global standards for sustainable urban development,” Tinubu added. “They reflect our commitment to building transit-oriented cities that promote smart mobility and secure transportation.”
He noted that the transport infrastructure projects are integral to his Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes modernization and public safety.
“No country can progress without modern infrastructure. Our investment in high-impact transportation projects is essential to national development,” he stated.
The president also commended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for his prudent management of public resources and acknowledged the backing of the National Assembly.
In his address, Wike clarified that the terminal would be privately managed to ensure efficiency and sustainability.
“Government has no business running transport services. This terminal will be operated by private professionals who will remit revenue to the FCT. If left to civil servants or politicians, it would collapse in weeks,” Wike said.
