Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has applauded the verdict of the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which affirmed him as the duly elected governor of the state.
The tribunal, which sat in Akure on Wednesday, dismissed the challenges brought against his election by opposition candidates, including Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In its ruling, the panel led by Justice Benson Ogbu concluded that the allegations of vote irregularities and breaches of the Electoral Act lacked credible supporting evidence.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, in his reaction, expressed profound gratitude to God and the people of Ondo State for their consistent support throughout the electoral process and subsequent legal proceedings.
“I give thanks to God and the good people of Ondo State,” he said. “On November 16, 2024, over 366,000 voters entrusted me with their mandate. Today, that trust has been legally validated.”
He emphasized that, despite the attempts by rival parties to contest the outcome in court, the tribunal’s judgment reinforces public confidence in the democratic system.
The Governor also acknowledged the unwavering backing of his deputy, leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and loyal supporters across the state who stood by him during the period of uncertainty.
Speaking on the prospect of working with opposition figures, Aiyedatiwa reiterated his openness to inclusive governance and collaboration for the state’s development.
“From the day I was declared winner, I have maintained my willingness to work with anyone committed to the progress of Ondo State. Constructive ideas from any quarter are welcome,” he stated.
Shortly after the ruling was delivered, Governor Aiyedatiwa joined a crowd of jubilant supporters in a victory procession from the premises of the State High Court to his campaign office along Oyemekun Road in Akure.
