The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled its list of match officials for the 2025 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, with Nigeria’s Yemisi Akintoye among the distinguished referees selected.

The tournament which is set to take place from July 5 to 26, 2025 will not only highlight Africa’s top female footballers but also showcase elite officiating, featuring a record 46 match officials, which surpassed the 40 appointed for the 2022 edition.

Akintoye’s inclusion as one of just 18 centre referees underscores her growing stature in African football. Known for her sharp judgment and calm presence on the pitch, the Nigerian referee continues to earn continental and international recognition for her consistency and professionalism.

The full lineup includes 18 referees, 18 assistant referees, and 10 Video Assistant Referees (VAR) from 30 African nations. Host country Morocco leads with five officials selected, including Bouchra Karboubi, who has officiated at both the Africa Cup of Nations and the upcoming Paris Olympic Games. Also among the VAR officials is Rwanda’s Salima Mukansanga, who refereed the WAFCON 2022 final.
