Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports claiming that the minister allocated 2,082 hectares of land in Maitama and Asokoro to his son.
Olayinka described the accusation as “another baseless lie” aimed at damaging Wike’s reputation.
In a statement released on Thursday, he categorically denied any allocation of land to the minister’s children. “Not even a single plot has been given to any of the Minister’s children,” he said.
He questioned the plausibility of the report, asking, “Where in today’s Maitama or Asokoro can anyone find 2,082 hectares of land available for allocation?”
Challenging those behind the allegations, Olayinka called for evidence showing any land ownership in the names of Wike’s children.
He also emphasized that while Wike and his family, like any Nigerian citizen, have the legal right to own land anywhere in the country, including Abuja, no such acquisition involving his children has occurred.
Addressing claims about a Right of Occupancy reportedly issued to JOAQ Farms and Estate Limited, Olayinka explained that the company was granted land in Bwari Area Council strictly for agricultural purposes not in Maitama or Asokoro as alleged.
“What is wrong with a farmer acquiring land for farming?” he queried.
Olayinka urged the public to disregard the report, describing it as entirely false and designed to mislead.
