Nigerian comedian and actor, Woli Arole, has stirred controversy online following remarks he made on social media, criticising women who opt for surrogacy despite being medically able to conceive and carry children themselves.

In a post shared on his Instagram page on Monday, Arole described such decisions as being driven by modern ideologies and “wokeness,” which he believes stray from divine intent.

“Listen carefully. It is a blessing for a woman to carry her baby in her womb. That’s how God wants it. Don’t let wokeness derail you,” he wrote.

Arole acknowledged that surrogacy and other forms of assisted reproduction, such as IVF, are valid options in cases involving medical necessity.

However, he strongly opposed the idea of women choosing surrogacy purely out of preference or convenience.

“You can’t say, ‘My body, my decision. I don’t feel like carrying a child. I want surrogacy.’ No!! Your body is God’s temple!” he asserted.

The comedian emphasized that the womb is a sacred gift with a divine purpose and should not be bypassed without serious reason.

“Surrogacy is not something you just choose. There’s a reason God gave you a womb,” he added.

His comments have sparked a wide range of reactions across social media, with some users supporting his religious and moral stance, while others criticised him for undermining women’s autonomy and the evolving definitions of family and motherhood.
