Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in London on Monday for high-level meetings with King Charles III and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, according to a senior Ukrainian official speaking to AFP.
The visit is part of Zelensky’s ongoing efforts to bolster international backing for Ukraine as the Russian invasion stretches beyond its third year. He is also scheduled to attend a NATO summit in The Hague later in the week.
A spokesperson for Zelensky stated that the trip aims to “strengthen defence cooperation.”
During his visit, the president will meet King Charles III, Prime Minister Starmer, and the heads of both chambers of the UK Parliament—Speaker Lindsay Hoyle and Lord John McFall.
He is also expected to engage with Ukrainian soldiers receiving training in the UK and meet representatives from various think tanks.
Since Russia’s invasion in early 2022, the UK has remained a firm ally of Ukraine, imposing multiple sanctions on Moscow and providing several rounds of military assistance.
