Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Senate President David Mark, and several other influential leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convened a high-level meeting in Abuja on Tuesday as part of plans to forge a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The closed-door session, held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, marks a critical phase in ongoing consultations to establish a broad political coalition aimed at challenging President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

In attendance were notable PDP figures, including former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, former PDP National Chairman Prince Uche Secondus, as well as former governors Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), and Sam Egwu (Ebonyi).

According to sources present at the meeting, which was presided over by David Mark, discussions centred on whether PDP leaders would fully integrate into the emerging coalition party or retain their membership within the PDP while forming a strategic electoral alliance.

Earlier reports by Sunday PUNCH had indicated that the coalition had settled on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform, with Senator Mark tipped to serve as interim chairman. The official unveiling of the coalition is expected to take place on Wednesday.

Other key PDP stakeholders present included Senator Ben Obi, former PDP National Women Leader Josephine Anenih, former National Organising Secretary Senator Austin Akobundu, ex-National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan, and former National Youth Leader Abdullahi Maibasira, among others.
