The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sounded a clear warning to its members considering defection, declaring that the party will soon take decisive steps to address internal disloyalty and anti-party activities.

This strong message was delivered by the party’s Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, during a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday. The briefing followed a crucial meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

Flanked by other NWC members, Damagum reaffirmed the PDP’s unity and readiness for the 2027 general elections, warning that the party will not tolerate acts of sabotage or internal weakening.

“If you are a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, we are drawing the line. Those who go out to demarket the party we are watching and appropriate action will be taken at the right time,” he said.

He also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating attempts to destabilize the PDP through intimidation and inducement of its members. Damagum made it clear that the outcome of the 2027 elections would be determined by Nigerians, not by the APC’s political maneuvering.

“To the APC, I send this message: continue with your harassment and schemes, but understand that 2027 will be decided by the will of the Nigerian people not your tactics,” he stated.

Criticizing the APC-led administration, Damagum said the government has failed to address major national challenges, including rising hunger, worsening insecurity, and the arbitrary mistreatment of citizens.

“It is time for the ruling party to reflect and correct its course. The overwhelming hardship being faced by Nigerians is unacceptable,” he said.

Reiterating the PDP’s commitment to democracy and people-focused governance, Damagum described the party as Nigeria’s most resilient political institution—structured to weather turbulent times and uphold the voice of the people.

“We are in a democracy. Nigerians are not a conquered people, we are law-abiding citizens whose voices must be heard,” he said.

He called on PDP members to remain loyal and act as ambassadors of the party, emphasizing the PDP’s legacy and contributions to national development. While acknowledging that some individuals may consider leaving, Damagum expressed confidence they would eventually return.

“To those thinking of defecting, I advise against it. No other party is as inclusive and accommodating as the PDP. But if they must go, we wish them well, we know many will come back,” he added.

Damagum concluded by assuring Nigerians that the PDP remains committed to providing effective leadership and building a better future for the country.

The party’s next National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting is scheduled for July 23–25, where critical strategies for the 2027 general elections will be discussed.
