A political group loyal to former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State is increasingly uneasy about his rising political profile ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, the Zonal Coordinator for New Media of the Malami Support Organisation, Muhammad Al’amin, said the APC’s reaction to Malami’s recent defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) reveals deep anxiety within the party. He dismissed claims that the move had rendered Malami politically irrelevant.

“Since Malami joined the ADC, APC members in Kebbi have become visibly unsettled. They are the same people dismissing the ADC as dead on arrival, which only shows how threatened they feel,” Al’amin stated.

He argued that Malami left the APC because the party had strayed from its founding principles, despite his pivotal role in its early successes in the state.

“It was Malami who built the APC in Kebbi, not the other way around. He played a critical role in the emergence of Governor Nasir Idris in 2023,” he added.

The support group also criticised the current Kebbi State administration, accusing it of underperformance in key areas such as education and healthcare. Al’amin said this has only increased public discontent and support for Malami’s political comeback.

“Despite his contribution to bringing this administration to power, it has failed to meet the expectations of the people, particularly in sectors like education and healthcare,” he said.

Commenting on the state’s political atmosphere, Al’amin claimed that opposition voices are being suppressed. He cited the disruption of a recent PDP stakeholders’ meeting as evidence of political intolerance.

“When the PDP attempted to hold a meeting last month, APC supporters went out of their way to sabotage it,” he alleged.

Al’amin emphasized that Malami remains committed to peaceful and democratic engagement and that his supporters will continue to mobilize through legal and non-violent means.
