Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, has officially announced his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.
He began early consultations on Friday, meeting with key leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the Ogbomoso and Oyo zones.
During a meeting at the residence of APC stalwart Ayoade Adeseun in Ogbomoso, Adelabu underscored his commitment to internal democracy and assured party members that candidates would not be imposed.
“I’m ready for the challenge,” he said. “I want to prove that I can win through fair competition.”
Calling for unity among party members, particularly those who may feel marginalized, Adelabu urged the APC to focus on reclaiming power in the next election cycle.
“I’m running in 2027, and I plan to apply the lessons learned from the last two elections,” he stated, highlighting the strategic importance of Ogbomoso in Oyo’s political dynamics.
Adelabu also voiced strong support for President Bola Tinubu’s expected re-election bid, asserting, “It’s time for the Yoruba to complete two terms. Nigeria stands to gain from Tinubu’s continued leadership.”
In Oyo town, Adelabu pledged an inclusive administration if elected, emphasizing that his candidacy would be built on merit, not imposition. “I’m here to earn your trust and support,” he told party faithful.
He further promised to prioritize the development of Oyo, noting its cultural and historical significance. “Oyo deserves better, and I intend to deliver,” he affirmed.
Prominent APC figures, including Ayoade Adeseun and Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala son of former governor Alao-Akala also spoke at the events, stressing the need for party cohesion to secure victory in 2027.
