Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, has congratulated the people and government of the state on the outstanding victory of Team Kwara at the recently concluded National Presidential Debate held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Speaking at the Government House in Ilorin during a reception held in honour of the debate team, Governor AbdulRazaq praised the students for their brilliant performance and for bringing pride to the state on a national stage.
In recognition of their achievement, the Governor announced a cash reward of ₦1 million for each team member, while their coaching instructors received ₦500,000 each as a token of appreciation for their dedication and mentorship.
“Thank you for making Kwara proud. You have made the entire state happy, and in return, I will also make you happy,” Governor AbdulRazaq said warmly.
He extended his gratitude to the directors in the Ministry of Education, dedicated teachers across the state, coaching instructors, and the broader student community for contributing to the team’s success and enhancing the reputation of Kwara State in national academic competitions.
Earlier in his remarks, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, commended the Governor for his visionary leadership and unwavering investment in the education sector.
Dr. Olohungbebe emphasized that the administration’s efforts to reposition public schools in the state were beginning to yield remarkable results, as evidenced by the exceptional performance of the debate team. He urged the students to remain focused and sustain the momentum.

Moshood Kamaldeen, Government Secondary School, Ilorin, AbdulAzeez Aishat, Nawarudeen Grammar School, Offa, AbdulAzeez Mudhasir, St. Anthony’s Secondary School, Ilorin and Usman Maryam, Ilorin Grammar School, Ilorin
Team Kwara emerged overall champions of the national presidential debate, triumphing over Team Rivers and Team Enugu, who finished second and third respectively.
The event was attended by several dignitaries including the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, Mallam Tahueed Abubakar Bello; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs. Olanrewaju Rebecca Bake; directors from the Ministry, principals of various secondary schools, and other top officials.
