Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed that the newly formed coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is dedicated to prioritizing the needs of Nigerians in all its actions.
In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, Obi emphasized that the coalition’s decision to adopt the ADC as its platform ahead of the 2027 general elections was made after serious reflection on Nigeria’s challenges and the need for a new leadership direction.
“Yesterday, the coalition members formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 Nigeria General Elections,” Obi wrote.
“Distinguished Senator David Mark will serve as National Chairman, while H.E. Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola will take on the role of National Secretary.”
Obi stated that the coalition’s objective is to deliver competent, capable, and compassionate leadership focused on the nation’s welfare.
“Our commitment is to sacrifice and work together toward the 2027 elections, ensuring that Nigeria gets a leadership that puts its people first,” he added.
He also stressed the importance of unity among opposition groups “No single group can change Nigeria alone. To dismantle the structures that perpetuate poverty and insecurity, we must build bridges even when they are uneasy.”
The coalition, which includes prominent figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Obi, and other opposition leaders, was officially launched at an event held at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja on Wednesday.
At the event, David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola were unveiled as the interim National Chairman and Secretary of the ADC, respectively. The coalition’s aim is to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
