The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has formally kicked off its strategic campaign tagged “Operation Recapture Oyo” with the goal of reclaiming power from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 general elections.

This declaration was made on Tuesday during a strategic meeting of APC leaders from the ten local government areas that make up the Oke-Ogun region. The gathering took place in Igboho, the headquarters of Orelope Local Government Area.

Presiding over the meeting was party stalwart and former Deputy Governor of the state, Chief Iyiola Oladokun. Speaking on behalf of other leaders, Oladokun lamented what he described as the deterioration of Oyo State’s legacy as a “Pace Setter” under the PDP administration. He decried the growing environmental decay, including uncollected refuse, blocked drainage systems, open defecation, and rising insecurity, particularly kidnapping incidents in Oke-Ogun.

Oladokun called on APC members to embark on aggressive grassroots mobilisation and ensure that every eligible voter secures their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). He stressed that this was essential to wrest power from the PDP and restore progressive leadership in the state.

“We have learnt from our past mistakes that cost us control of a progressive state. Now, we are better prepared to install a visionary and people-oriented government in 2027,” he stated.

The meeting also witnessed a renewed push for power rotation, with stakeholders advocating for an Oke-Ogun indigene to be considered for the governorship or a senatorial ticket in the forthcoming elections.

In a show of unity and support, the APC Peace Advocate Group which includes prominent figures such as former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly Akin Onigbinde, ex-lawmakers, and other former public office holders paid a solidarity visit. The group urged all aspirants and their supporters to maintain peace during campaigns and political activities.

Other notable figures present at the meeting included former Minister of Communications, Barr. Adebayo Shittu; former Deputy Governors Adeyemo Alake and Rauf Olaniyan; as well as serving and former federal and state lawmakers, former commissioners, and party officials, including youth and women leaders.

The meeting concluded with a unanimous vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and an endorsement of his second-term bid in 2027.
