The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken an early lead in the Lagos State local government elections, which concluded around 3 p.m. on Saturday. Vote sorting and result announcements are currently underway across all 57 local government areas and local council development areas (LCDAs) of the state.
The polls, however, witnessed a generally low voter turnout in many parts of the state.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who cast his vote at Polling Unit 006, St. Stephen’s Nursery and Primary School in Adeniji-Adele, acknowledged minor delays in the early hours of the election, attributing them to logistical issues.
As of 4 p.m., preliminary reports indicated that APC was leading in several areas including Adeniji-Adele, Yaba, Somolu, Bariga, Ikeja, and Agege. Results released so far show APC ahead in both chairmanship and councillorship races, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) trailing in second place and the Labour Party (LP) in third.
APC Candidate in Yaba Commends Peaceful Exercise
Meanwhile, the APC chairmanship candidate for Yaba LCDA, Adebayo Adefuye, described the election as peaceful, smooth, and credible. Speaking shortly after voting, Adefuye praised the orderly conduct of the exercise and emphasized the significance of grassroots governance, calling the poll “one of the most important elections.”
He also unveiled his development agenda titled “Yaba Tuntun”—translated as “New Yaba”—which he said represents a fresh start and a commitment to correcting past shortcomings in the council.
Reacting to the Federal Government’s enforcement of financial autonomy for local governments, Adefuye expressed full support for the initiative and commended President Bola Tinubu for championing the reform.
