Presidential aide Daniel Bwala has stated that his former principal and ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar may not have been destined to become Nigeria’s president.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on Monday night, Bwala dismissed the chances of Atiku and other opposition leaders such as Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi of unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.

“In all honesty, I believe it may never have been destined by God for him [Atiku] to become president,” Bwala said. “He has done everything a person could possibly do to attain that office, yet he never won. The 2023 election was his biggest opportunity. He will never have that kind of opening again.”

Bwala, who served as a spokesperson for Atiku’s 2023 presidential campaign, defected to President Tinubu’s camp a few months after the election.

Commenting on the recently announced opposition coalition formed to challenge Tinubu’s administration and adopting the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform, Bwala criticized the alliance, saying it lacks both clear direction and public appeal.

“This coalition of internally displaced politicians still hasn’t shown the courage to present alternative facts, policies, or programs,” he said.

Referring to a recent interview with Peter Obi, Bwala noted, “What’s clear is that Obi hasn’t been able to genuinely challenge or discredit the policies this administration is implementing.”

Bwala also remarked that only President Tinubu can determine which of his ministers will remain in office, hinting at possible changes in the cabinet.
