DELE-MOMODU

Former presidential aspirant and veteran journalist, Dele Momodu, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s takeover by antidemocratic elements.

In a letter dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Momodu announced his immediate departure from the party.

“My reason is simple and straightforward,” he wrote. “The party has clearly been hijacked in broad daylight by antidemocratic forces from within and outside. It is only honourable to leave the carcass of the PDP to them while the rest of us align with the new coalition party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”

Momodu, who joined the PDP in 2021 and is the publisher of Ovation International, thanked his ward leaders for their unwavering support over the years.

His defection to the ADC is seen as a notable development in Edo State politics and further reflects the shifting alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections. His move also comes amid a series of high-profile resignations from the PDP, driven by growing dissatisfaction with the party’s internal structure and leadership.
