Fluminense defender and former Chelsea star Thiago Silva has sent a strong message to his former club ahead of their Club World Cup semi-final showdown on Tuesday night.

The veteran centre-back, who spent four successful years at Stamford Bridge before departing in 2024, has warned that Fluminense are fully prepared to take on the Premier League giants in what promises to be a high-stakes encounter.

Speaking to Ge Globo via the Chelsea Chronicle, Silva revealed that he’s actively assisting Fluminense’s coaching staff with tactical insights, using his familiarity with Chelsea’s squad to give his side an edge.

“The expectations are high, the anxiety is high for me, it’s a special moment to face Chelsea in a World Cup semi-final,” Silva said. “I’ve been helping the staff with some small but important details things that will remain internal.”

The 39-year-old recently returned to London for a brief visit and watched Chelsea’s training session, further fueling speculation about his role in preparing Fluminense for the clash.

“Of course, we can’t reveal everything, but the important thing is that we’re ready. That’s what matters most,” he added.

Silva also spoke about Fluminense’s passionate fan base and the unique spirit around the club.

“Regardless of who we face, Fluminense has a special energy and a devoted fan base. I hope that aura carries us through tomorrow.”

While Silva admitted he doesn’t know new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca personally, he remains closely connected to many of the Blues’ players.

“I talk to several of them almost every week. Some are still very close friends,” he said.

Silva joined Chelsea in 2020 from Paris Saint-Germain and played a key role in their Champions League triumph in 2021 before leaving the club in 2024.

Now, wearing Fluminense colours, he stands between his former teammates and a place in the Club World Cup final.
