Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo in a deal worth an initial £65 million, with an additional £6 million in performance-based add-ons. The move marks a major step in head coach Ruben Amorim’s ambitious rebuild of the Red Devils’ underperforming attack.
Mbeumo, 25, enjoyed a sensational 2024/25 Premier League campaign, netting 20 goals in 38 appearances for the Bees, form that caught the eye of multiple top clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs, now managed by former Brentford boss Thomas Frank, were also keen to reunite with the Cameroon international. However, Manchester United’s improved bid ultimately convinced Brentford to sell, following the rejection of two earlier offers.
The winger is expected to undergo his medical over the weekend and could join the rest of the squad in the United States by Tuesday as Amorim’s team embarks on their pre-season tour.
Once finalized, Mbeumo will become United’s third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Wolves striker Matheus Cunha (£62.5 million) and 18-year-old Paraguayan defender Diego Leon. The trio forms part of Amorim’s effort to overhaul a frontline that struggled for goals last season.
United endured a disastrous 2024/25 campaign, culminating in a 1-0 loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final and a shocking 15th-place finish in the Premier League, their worst in over 50 years. Strikers Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee failed to make a meaningful impact, prompting Amorim to push for significant reinforcements.
As part of the squad reshuffle, Alejandro Garnacho has reportedly been told to find a new club, while Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are expected to depart permanently following loan stints at Aston Villa and Chelsea respectively.
Despite missing out on Champions League qualification, a financial blow estimated to cost the club at least £70 million, United’s hierarchy appear committed to backing Amorim’s vision for revival.
Bryan Mbeumo, who can operate across both wings and in central attacking roles, is known for his speed, creativity, and sharp finishing. His versatility will provide United with much-needed dynamism in the final third.
The Cameroon international spent six productive years at Brentford after joining from French side Troyes in 2019. During his time in West London, he racked up 70 goals and 51 assists in 242 appearances across all competitions. He played a key role in Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League in 2021 and was instrumental in their impressive 10th-place finish last season.
Mbeumo’s signing signals a clear intent from Manchester United to return to elite status with Amorim at the helm and a growing list of exciting new talents at his disposal.
