Former Ekiti State Governor and prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) figure, Ayodele Fayose, has publicly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027.

Fayose made the endorsement on Monday at an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally held in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital. Interestingly, he appeared at the event wearing a PDP-branded cap, underscoring his continued loyalty to the opposition party.

Fayose while speaking at the rally said: “We are here today to openly and without reservation endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term. We are also here to support our humble governor, Biodun Oyebanji, and his deputy for another term in office.”

He emphasized that the event was historic, bringing together former governors, political leaders, National Assembly members, and other key stakeholders in the state who, according to him, have all declared support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

Despite his open declaration, Fayose was quick to clarify that he remains with the PDP.

“I am not a member of the APC and I will never be,” he added.

Fayose’s endorsement comes shortly after he sparked controversy by suggesting that the PDP could fall to fourth place in the 2027 general elections. His comments have drawn sharp criticism from within the party, with the Ekiti State chapter of the PDP calling for his resignation over alleged anti-party activities.

His latest stance aligns with a broader wave of early support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid. In June, leaders of the APC from the South-South geopolitical zone threw their weight behind Tinubu, and in May, the Progressive Governors Forum adopted him as the party’s sole presidential candidate for 2027.
