A fire broke out early Wednesday morning, destroying five shops next to the Olowo-Ifon shopping complex in the Orita Challenge area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident, stating that the fire began at approximately 2:24 a.m.
Firefighters quickly responded, successfully containing the blaze and preventing it from spreading to other shops and the main complex.
“Our team acted swiftly and saved properties worth millions, but unfortunately, five out of eleven shops were lost,” Akinwande said.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was triggered by an electrical surge that ignited nearby flammable materials.
Akinwande urged residents and business owners to prioritize fire safety and adopt preventive measures to reduce fire risks.
